Peggy “Penny” Cecil
Sims age 60, departed
this life in Knoxville on
Saturday, June 24, 2023.
She was born in Jacksonville
Florida on February 3,
1963. She was the daughter
of the late Durward
Lindberg Cecil and Peggy
Sue Latham Cecil. She
grew up on Angel Valley
Farm. Peggy was a graduate
of Draughons Junior College. She loved animals
and the great outdoors. Peggy enjoyed hiking, camping,
and gardening. Her favorite vacation spot was Elkmont
Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains. She was the
founder of “All Things Homemade” by Peggy and was
known for her jams, jellies, biscuits, and canned goods.
She was a member of Hines Valley Baptist Church. Peggy
had a huge heart and a wonderful sense of humor. She is
loved by many and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her brothers: F.S. Cecil and Richard “Dinky” Cecil;
Nephew: Tyler Manis. She is survived by her husband
Randal Sims; Daughter: Christy Veal and husband Jason;
Grandchildren: Gage Veal, Max Veal, and Emma Veal;
Sisters: Carol Horrar and husband Bob, Patricia Manis
and husband Kreis, Diane Ball and husband Aaron; Many
other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, June
28, 2023, from 10:30am to 12:00pm in the Chapel of the
Four Oaks Funeral Home in Oneida. Graveside services
will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 12:30pm in the
Cecil Cemetery.

Doris Sue Willis, age
75, departed this life on
Sunday, June 25, 2023.
Born in Scott County, TN
on September 21, 1947,
she was the daughter of the
late Robert C. and Imogene
Burchfield Troxel. She was
a member of High Point
Baptist Church and was a
devoted wife, mother, and
grandmother who loved being
with her family. Over the years, she enjoyed working
and meeting people and would do anything she could to
help out.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death
by her loving husband, Robert R. (Bob) Willis; a daughter
who she loved deeply, Dawn Renahue Willis Foster; infant
brother, Thomas Lee; grandparents, Robert Z. and Orangie
Burchfield; aunts, Edna Burress, Bobbie Terry, Betty Sue
Burchfield; and uncle, Norman C. Burchfield.
She is survived by her daughter, Erika Willis King and
husband Ray; three special grandchildren, Rusty Foster
(Diane), Alexandria Jade Foster, and London Ray King;
one special great grandson, Kellin Clark; sisters, Sandra
K. Troxel and Teresa Troxel (Ronald); nephews, Sean
Tucker, Trinity Tucker and family, Brandon Tucker, Avery
Foster, Travis Foster, and Terry Davis and family; niece,
April Ellis and family; and many other family members
and friends that she loved.

June 28, 2023 from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral service
at 2 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with
Bro. Jamie Duvall officiating.
Committal service will follow in the Carson Memorial

Melba June Chambers
Baird (90) of New
Castle, PA passed away at
her home Monday, May
29, 2023 just 27 days short
of her 91st birthday. Born
June 25, 1932 in Pioneer,
TN, she was the daughter of
the late Sterling and Loma
(Strunk) Chambers. She
was one of eight kids. Her
brothers whom she loved so
dearly: Tyrus (Glennis) Chambers, Donald (Doris) Chambers,
and James Chambers, all of Tennessee and Fondee
(Ruth) Chambers and Bryan (Mary) Chambers of Ohio all
predeceased her as well as her sister Doris (Gene) Sharp
also of Tennessee. Her baby sister, Sue (Vern) Taylor of
Cincinnati, Ohio survives.
Melba moved to Cincinnati, OH with her late husband,
Dennis Don Baird, exiting Tennessee for the jobs there
after the Korean War. She worked several jobs during her
younger years including as a receptionist at a furniture
store and in medical billing for a doctor in Greentree, PA.
But her main “job” was wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother.
Melba lived near her daughter Teresa and son-in-law
Larry Spurk in New Castle and later lived with them.
Melba and Dennis loved the Lord from a very young
age and helped start two Southern Baptist churches.
Melba spent her life raising kids, teaching small children
in Sunday School and loving her grandchildren and great
grandchildren. She attended First Baptist Church and
Sparklers in New Castle for many years and later attended
New Life Baptist Church in New Wilmington. Melba
loved the Lord and read her Bible and attended church all
she could. Even later in life, she went to church as long as
her body would allow. She had a full life devoted to her
God.
She is survived by her two children, Dr. Jeffrey Baird
and fiancée Judith Miller of Penn Township, PA and
Teresa (Larry) Spurk of New Castle, PA. Melba is also
survived by her four grandchildren, Daniel (Emily) Spurk
of Zelienople, Melissa (Luke) Nagel of New Castle,
Jennifer (Bradley) Chew of Manor and Jonathan Baird of
New York City.
She is further survived by great grandchildren Avery,
Gabriel, Wyatt, Valerie, Paige and Riley. She is also survived
by many nieces and nephews. She treasured each
and every one of them.
We could not have had better help in caring for her
than her grandchildren and Three Rivers Hospice. We will
forever be grateful for your love and assistance.

Barbara Carol (Simpson)
Sheppard, age 89 of
Grove City, Ohio, passed
away on Wednesday, June
21, 2023, at The Ashford
on Broad, Columbus, Ohio.
Born in Stearns, Kentucky
on July 6, 1933, she was the
daughter of the late James
and Lena Simpson.
Carol retired from
Nationwide Children’s Hospital
in Columbus, Ohio and enjoyed watching baseball
and solving the crimes on Live PD, vacationing at Myrtle
Beach, and her grand pups, Marley, Baby Girl, Beatrix,
Chase, and Bailey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband: Arnold Sheppard; brothers: Thomas, Granville,
Ruble, and James N. Simpson; and sisters: Blaina
Simpson and Joyce Pemberton.
Carol is survived by her daughter: Marla Sheppard
(John) of Grove City, Ohio, grandson: Christopher Jayson
Kinstler (Heather) of Galloway, Ohio, granddaughters:
Stephani Wise (Aaron) of Canal Winchester, Ohio,
Danielle DiPietro (Tristan) of North Canton, Ohio, great
grandsons: Tyson Joseph DiPietro, Christopher Jaxon
Kinstler, Tyler James Wise; great granddaughters: Lucia
and Ahsha DiPietro; and sister: Donna Simpson, of Oneida
Tennessee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other
family members and friends.

service at 2:00 p.m. at Carson Memorial Mausoleum with

Knoxville, TN, she was the
daughter of Kimberly Cox
Humfleet and Clifford Lee
Humfleet.
She was preceded in
death by her twin brother: C. J. Humfleet; grandmother:
Jewell Pennington Cox, grandfather: William Clifford
Cox.
In addition to her parents, Kimberly Cox Humfleet
and Clifford Lee Humfleet, she is survived by her three
children: Jaiden Humfleet of Richmond, KY, Jacee Pike,
and Ember Pike, both of Winfield, TN; siblings: Kyla
Shepherd of Winfield, TN, River Humfleet of London, KY,
Brittney Baird of Lily, KY, and Dustin Humfleet of Corbin,
KY; special friend: Jessika Smith of Brandenburg,

Robert Lee Slaven, age
73 of Oneida, TN passed
away on Wednesday, June
28, 2023, at his home
surrounded by family. Born
in Scott County, TN on
December 4, 1949, he was
the son of the late Andy and
Mable Ooten Slaven.
Robert was a faithful
Christian man who loved
working as an altar worker at church. He was also a big
Oneida and Tennessee football fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his son, Brandon Robert Slaven; brothers, Barry and wife
Sarah Faye, Roy, Hershel and Jewel, Charles and Brenda,
Clifford, and infant brother, Johnny; father-in-law, James
W. Burchfield; brother-in-law, James Ronald Burchfield
and wife Barbara.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Marie Burchfield
Slaven; daughters, Nicole and Kenny VanHook and Stacy
Slaven; grandsons whom he raised, Jacob and wife Ali,
Cody and wife Tiffany, Chad, Elijah, and other grandsons
Tyler Crews, Logan Ellis; nephew, Rick and Sherry
Slaven; a precious great granddaughter who he loved
very much, Rylee Marie Slaven; mother-in-law, Imogene
Burchfield; sisters-in-law, Merrilea Slaven, Jean Slaven,
Sandra Hagler and husband Terry; three special nieces and
nephews that he thought of as grandchildren, NaRicka
Grey, Kelsey Slaven, and Nick Slaven; nieces and nephews,
Glenda Neal, Barry Jr. Slaven, Darryl Slaven, Tony
and DeWayne Slaven, Shaun, Shaneka Slaven Burchfield,
and Sheila Slaven; a host of other nieces and nephews,

will be provided by family and friends.
Robert will be cremated with a private service.

Helen Griffith, age 88,
left this world on Saturday,
July 1, 2023, at her home
surrounded by her family.
She was born October 15,
1934, in the Brimstone area
of Scott County to her parents
Sylvester and Bertha
(Reagan) Griffith.
Helen loved working in
her flower beds when she
was able, watching her soap operas and western movies,
feeding the birds, and sitting on the porch drinking coffee
with family, but there was nothing she loved more than her
family.
She was preceded in death by her young husband and
father of 6 of her 7 children, Kenneth Griffith; her parents,
Sylvester and Bertha (Reagan) Griffith; 2 sisters, Margie
and Eloise Griffith; 4 brothers, J.C., Russel, Joe and Floyd
Griffith; son-in-law, Larry Garrett; and daughter-in-law,
Abby Griffith.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Stanley
Griffith; 4 daughters, Janice (Benny) Bowling, Kathy
(Wade) Chambers, Diana Garrett, and Brenda Spradlin; 3
sons, Kenneth Larry, Michael, and Stanley Jr. Griffith; 10
grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great
grandchildren; 1 brother, Howard (Sharon) Griffith; many
other relatives and friends.
