Imagination Library
Scott County Imagination Library
A Program of ALQI Appalachian Life Quality Initiative ALQI, a 501 (C ) 3 non-profit, has partnered with local volunteers to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program to the children in Scott County. The program provides brand new
age-appropriate books to preschool children ages birth to five years. The educational benefits of the program are seen in our community and in the local school systems daily. Each county participating in the Imagination Library program is required to raise one-half of the fees required to provide books to its county recipients. 2020 had a devastating effect on our fundraising efforts, and we continue to struggle to provide this service to our children. We currently have over 80% of eligible children enrolled, and our current enrollment number is 1,084.
The other half of the cost is covered under The Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation. Depending on the total number of children registered, the total cost of running the program in Scott County for one year varies from $15,000 to $20,000. Due to a lack of expected donations in the last six months, we did not have enough funds to cover February’s book bill. Thanks to a grant agreement, the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation stepped in with a three-month emergency grant. This leaves us now working toward funding for the rest of this year. We are seeking donations and sponsorship dollars. While any donation will be greatly appreciated and is tax deductible, we are also seeking corporate sponsors. The cost to sponsor an entire month is $2000. This covers the cost of books and program fees. If you should decide to become a sponsor, your company’s name will appear on the shipping label in recognition of your contribution. All payments should be made payable to ALQI, the 501c3 entity that administers the program, with Scott County Imagination Library in the memo. You may mail your payment to:
