WILMA JEANNE HYDER CRABTREE

Wilma Jeanne Hyder Crabtree, 83, of Oneida, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Rosemont of Stone Mountain Nursing Home in Stone Mountain, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lucy Hill Hyder; brother, Odie Phillips; sister-in-law, Betty Phillips all of Oneida; brother-in-law, Gary Boshears of Evendale, Oh.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Willis and wife Kathy Cato of Tucker, GA; grandchildren: Joel E. Chitwood II and wife Diana Chitwood of Evans, GA and Tyler Chitwood and husband Doug Matheson of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren: Damon Chitwood and Elysia Chitwood both of Evans, GA; sisters: Joan Boutwell of Oneida and Clara Boshears of Evendale, OH; special cousin, Rose West of Oneida; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 4 at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home.

Interment followed in the Litton Cemetery in Oneida.

GARY MICHAEL ACRES

Gary Michael Acres, 61, of Oneida, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Acres was preceded in death by his parents Arzo and Hattie Acres; sister, Lola Faye Jeffers; brother, Donald Glen Acres; infant brother, Jimmy Harold Acres; infant sister, Paula Kay Acres; niece, Tracy Elaine Campbell; sister-in-law, Dorothy Acres.

Survivors include his five children, Melanie Crabtree and husband, Roger, Stacie Brooks and husband, Jack, Ashley Acres, Brooke Acres, and Megan Spradlin and husband, Josh; eight grandchildren, Olivia Jeffers, Ethan Jeffers, Parker Brooks, Gracie Acres, Noah Acres, Mikah Fraser, Mason Acres, and Aubrie Spradlin; sisters, Rhonda Lee Campbell, Blannie Lou Smith, Brenda Chambers and companion, Roy Greenwood, Dorla Chambers and husband, Butch; sister-in-law, Patricia Acres; brothers, Anthony Wayne Acres, Larry Allen Acres and wife, Brenda, and Jeffrey Lynn Acres; and many nieces, nephews, close cousins, and special friends.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 3 at 3 P.M. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with bro. Robert King, bro. Tony Orick and bro. Joey Zachary officiating.

Burial followed in the Jeffers Acres Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Ashley Acres, Justin Acres, Jason Acres, Jarred Acres, Bryan Sexton, Seth Gibson, and William King.

Honorary pallbearers were: Larry Acres, Jaco Chambers, Phil Marcum, Allen Partlow, Mark Partlow, and Aaron Acres.

OSMOND DAW SMITH

Osmond Daw Smith Was born March 7, 1980 in Oak Ridge and passed away February 27, 2017 at Tennova Hospital in Powell, TN with his wife at his side.

Daw was a man who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. A man who made sure his family was safe, his kids were loved, and his wife got spoiled a little now and then. A man who was a stand-up guy. A man who did the right thing whether it was noticed or not. A man who had a strong conviction but a tender heart.

Daw was preceded in death by his father, Danny Osmond Smith; his step-father, Willie Blalock; grandmother, Willie Goins; grandparents, Osmond and Judy Smith; niece, Samantha Paige Harness; and one great nephew, Little Ricky.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Smith; five children, Dilyon, Austin, Joshua, JoJo, and Kaylee all of Oneida; his mother, Sheree Dempsey of Signal Mountain, TN; sister, Danette McCrary of Whitwell, TN; two sisters-in-law, Patty Smith and Kathy Eads of LaFollette, TN; brother-in-law, Kenny Eads of Oneida; seven nieces, Celeste, Reagan, Rayleen, Brianna, Danielle, Jade, and Dallas; six nephews, Nick, Coby, Damion, Isaac, Jaxon, and Thomas; great-nephew, Dawson; four great-nieces, Cheyenne, Denali, Amelia, and Karmyn; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were conducted Thursday, March 2 at 8 P.M. at New Haven Baptist Church.

WILLIAMS DAVE TODD

William Dave Todd, 82, of Robbins passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center in Jamestown. Born May 3, 1934, William was the son of the late Theodore and Bertie Todd.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Robbins.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Todd and TC Todd; sisters, Gladys Todd and Ruby Flowers.

Survivors include his wife, Louia Todd; daughters, Charlotte Manis and husband, Danny, Sandy Mays and husband, Bobby, and Rita Pemberton and husband, Scott; grandchildren, Traci Richmond and husband, Billy, Brent Mays, KC Stanley and husband, Will, and Sierra Hamby; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Richmond, William Richmond, Jaden Mays, DeShawn Hamby,Maci Hammock, Makenna Gibson, and Xavier Daniels; brother, Commodore Todd and wife, Paulene; sisters, Jane Garrett and husband, Junior, Rheba Flowers, and Golda Potter;; brother-in-law, Bepo Ward; sisters-in-law, Betty Seabolt and husband, Gary, June Todd Wiladean Walker, Sherlene Ward, and Faye Ward; and many other special relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 2 at 8 P.M in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with bro. Mike Smithers officiating. Music was provided by bro. Billy Richmond.

Graveside service were conducted Friday, March 3 at 10 A.M. in the Black Creek Crossroads Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Billy Richmond, Will Stanley, Danny Keeton, Wayne Todd, Clifton Todd, and Zach Daniels.

MARY RUTH BURCHFIELD SIMS

Mary Ruth Burchfield Sims was born on August 11, 1927 in Scott County. She passed away at her home in Mountain View Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the age of 89.

Ruth was a child of God and a member of the Black Creek United Baptist Church. She married Lenord W. Sims on September 18, 1944 in Huntsville. Ruth was the daughter of Esau and Cora Patton Burchfield. She was employed by Boss Gloves and Tennier Industries for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; granddaughter, Deborah Williams; an infant sister, Reba Burchfield; and a brother, James Burchfield.

Survivors include her children, Eddie Sims, Wanda and Ples Storey, Betty and Dennis Brown all of Mt. View, Larry and Sue Sims of Wolf Creek, Donna and Sam Storey of Black Creek; brothers and sisters, Janis and Curtis Potter of IN, Glenis York of Mt. Interment followed in the Black Creek Crossroads Cemetery.

BEN L. WARD

Ben L. Ward, 86, of Pioneer, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Ben was born on July 21, 1930, to the late John and Flossie Newport Ward.

He enjoyed fishing and his farm animals. He was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Artie Chambers Ward; his second wife, Shelma Lawson Byrd Ward; two brothers, Bobby Ward and Mike Ward; and two sisters, June Ward and Rosalee Duncan.

Survivors include his sister, Gladys Conatser of Cincinnati, OH; as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 1 at 7 P.M. in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville with bro. Carlie Duncan and bro. Randall Hutson officiating. Music was provided by the Capital Hill Baptist Church Choir.

Graveside service were held Thursday, March 2 at 2 P.M. in the Baird Cemetery at Ditney Trail.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

JAMES BILLY BOSHEARS

James Billy Boshears, 74, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at North Knoxville Medical Center in Powell, TN. He was born December 25, 1942 in Huntsville to the late Charles Boshears and Edith Grider Boshears.

He was a Member of the Helenwood Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jossie Smith; sister: Muriel Sue Caldwell; brother: Eddie Dean Byrd.

Survivors include his sons: William Brian Boshears and wife Paula, and Barry Tray Boshears all of Helenwood; grandchildren: Jamma McCann and husband Jeff, Adam Boshears and wife Amanda, Latasha Boshears and husband Johnathan Silcox, Jessica Boshears; great-grandchildren: Logan Boshears, Midajah Thomas, Ricky Thomas, Addilyn McCann and Bryar McCann; sister: Gloria Huckelby; special friends: Roy and Diane Lane, Eddie Dean Hill, and Jerry Foster; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 6 at 7 P.M. in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 7 at 11 A.M. in the Cut Cemetery in Helenwood.

CLYDE DAUGHERTY, JR.

Clyde Daugherty, 79, of Decherd, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Winchester.

He was a native of Harlan, KY but spent most of his life in Franklin County. He was a member of the Masonic Lodges in Decherd, Winchester, Tullahoma and Manchester. He was also a member of the Eastern Star and was a Shriner. He worked as a truck driver for Wrights Asphalt, The Rogers Group and Tinsley Asphalt until he semi-retired in 2015. He will be remembered best for always having the cleanest truck in the fleet and for the pride he took in his yard. He loved the outdoors and his lawnmowers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Crabtree Daugherty and his father, Clyde Daugherty, Sr.; his sisters, Mary Crick and Stella Hutson; brothers, Johnny, Tommy and Howard Daugherty.

Survivors include his is finance', Shirley Burks of Decherd; daughter, Vicci Casteel of Palm Coast, FL; son, Jamie (Brandi) Daugherty of Belvidere; granddaughter, Misty Burgess of Tullahoma; sister, Jean (Dave) Ginn of Robbins; brother, Willie (Carol) Daugherty Lafayette, IN; special brother-in-law, Benny Crick of GA

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 1 at 2 P.M. at the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home.

Interment followed at Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd with friends and family members serving as pallbearers.

SHEILA OVERTON GRAY

Sheila Overton Gray, 66, of Helenwood passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at her home. She was born on October 15, 1950 in Oneida.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cegial and Evelyn Parson Overton; Brothers, Donald Robbins, Roger Overton; Ricky (Buster) Overton; Sister, Phyllis Overton Gossett; sister- in- law, Faith Overton.

Survivors include daughters, Terrie Gray Pendergrass, and husband Rick, Paula Gray Wright, and husband Wayne; son, Randy Overton, and wife Teresa; brother, Ronnie Overton, special friend Helen Nelson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday March 6 at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home.

Interment followed in the Reed Cemetery in Helenwood.

Leeander W. Turner, 47, of Oneida passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at his home. He was born June 7, 1969 in Jamestown, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Ray and Willima Turner and James and Idra Crabtree, all of Jamestown; father and mother-in-law Floyd and MaryAnn Brewster of Oneida; Sister-in-law Tammy Rose Crabtree of Oneida; uncle Kenny Crabtree of Jamestown.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice; sons, Floyd and Lucas; daughter, Jasentha; father and mother, Sammy and Martha Turner of Jamestown; brother, Lynn and wife Nettie of Oklahoma; sister-in-law's, Debroah and husband Paul Crabtree of Oneida; Mileah and husband Troy Walker of Maryland; and many other family and friends.

Benjamin Franklin Monroe, Jr., 69, of Jamestown, Tennessee passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at his home. He was born December 5, 1947 to the late Benjamin Franklin Monroe, Sr. and Mammie Quick Monroe.

In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tammy Fletcher Monroe; brother, Rex Monroe; and grandson, Harley Morse.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Monroe; three children, Angela Newsome and husband, Jimmy, Linda Chambers, and Bobby Monroe; step-children, Dani Monroe, Crissy Babb, and Brandon Reagan; grandchildren, Chris Newsome and wife, Jessica, Cheyenne Morse, Cherilyn Morse, Joey Monroe, and Tyler Monroe; great-grandchild, Ava Newsome; brother, Randy Monroe; sister, Cheryl Monroe and many other relatives and friends.

Chester Sexton, 87, of Pioneer passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at his home. Chester was born to the late Harvey Sexton and Nannie Bell Lay Sexton.

He was retired from the Scott County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of the Oneida Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Kaye Sexton; grandson, Brett Davidson; granddaughter, Crystal Lynn Griffith; sisters, Sarah Fay Slaven, Dora Posey, Bell Cross, Betty Bullock, May Jeffers, and Flora Slay; brothers, James Sexton, Monroe Sexton, and Roger Sexton.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sexton; daughters, Linda Lenick, Sandra Mays and husband, Mitchell, Brenda Sexton, and Christine Jeffers and husband, Larry; grandchildren, Billy Joe Griffith and wife, Kiley, Lucas Ellis and wife, Emily, Erica Cooper and husband, Ben, Amber Ellis, Jessica Phillips, and Matthew Blakely; sister, Mary Lou Spry; 12 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 6 at 8 P.M. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with bro. Melvin Stephens and bro. Sammy Yancey officiating. Music was provided by sis. Sarah Byrd and sis. Janet Yancey.

Graveside service were held Tuesday, March 7 at 11 A.M. in the Scott County Memorial Gardens.

JOSEPH RUSSELL WILLIAMS

Joseph Russell Williams, 75, of Huntsville passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at NHC of Rossville in Rossville, GA. Mr. Williams was born September 2, 1941 in Norma, TN to the late Mary Hembree and Williams Efford Williams.

He retired with 25 years services as a truck driver with Overnite Transportation Company. Mr. Williams was a member of the Alvation Baptist Church and had attended Antioch and New Friendship churches also while living in the area. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting deer, rabbits and raccoons. He loved Braves baseball games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: James T. Williams, and Cecil Williams; his infant sister: Ernie Williams and especially his loving wife Heidi Williams.

Survivors include his son: Christopher Williams of Gay, GA; daughters: Carmen Smith (Sheriff Chuck Smith) of Gay, GA; Tina Turnipseed (Allen) of Newnan, GA; three grandchildren: Gabe Smith (Christian) of LaGrange; Michael Turnipseed of Newnan and Kersten Smith of Gay, GA; sisters Thelma-Ann Nelson of Chattanooga, TN and Erma Fair of Douglasville; many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 7 at 2 P.M. at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, in Manchester, GA. with Rev. Bill Strandberg officiating.

Interment followed in the Alvaton Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Johnny Worley, Allen Worley, Jimmy Carver, Michael Owens, Craig Owens and Alfred (Buster) McCoy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be given in memory of Joseph Russell Williams to the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes.
