LORETTA L. BROCK

Loretta L. Brock, 66, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at her home with her loving family and friends by her side. She was the daughter of the late Edgar Lay and Deola Riseden Byrd.

She was a member of the Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Junior Brock; brother: Ulas Lay; grandparents: John and Allie Riseden; grandson: Logan Strunk.

Survivors include her children: James Byrd, Mark Byrd, Gregory Byrd and wife Jacklyn, Jeffery Byrd, Connie Strunk and husband Steve; grandchildren: Scott and Brooke Byrd, Kelli and Ashley Sexton, Jerimiah Chambers, Kannon Byrd, Gregory Kevin Byrd; sister-in-law: Goldie Lay; nephews: Jerry Lay and wife Tammy, James Lay and wife Amy; niece: Evelyn Rutherford; father of her children: Herman (Vaughn) Byrd; special friends: Brandy Litton, Linda Lowe, Linda Ward, Angie Lowe, Marie Chambers and Mattaline Newport; special friend, Floyd Silcox and grandchildren as thought of as her own: Jad and Blake; several nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 22 at 7 P.M. in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville with bro. Carlie Duncan and bro. Jimmy Ray Lloyd officiating. Music was provided by Jimmy and Sarah Byrd, Peggy Duncan, Michelle Owens and Jimmy Ray Lloyd.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 23 at 10 A.M. in the Brock-Byrd Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Robbie Rushing, Johnny Lloyd, Donald Ford, Shannon Byrd, Troy Seabolt, Mikey King and Travis King.

BILLY JOE CLAXTON

Billy Joe Claxton, 64, passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 at his home. He was the son of the late Jim and Juanita (Phillips) Claxton.

He was a member of High Point Baptist Church but attended Macedonia Christian Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Bobby Claxton; sister: Charolette Claxton.

Survivors include, Jaretta Lawson Claxton, daughter: Amanda Ritchie and husband Roger, Justin and Jamey; seven grandchildren: Dymond, R.J. Autumn, Malaki, Kylin, Maggie and Zac; brother: Jeff Claxton wife Janet; sister: Junie Claxton; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 26 at 12 Noon in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville with bro. Chuck Duncan officiating.

Burial followed in the Daniel Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

ERMA LOU DAY

Erma Lou Day, 56, won her long fight against cancer Tuesday, November 22, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at Tennova North Medical Center in Knoxville. She was the daughter of the late Willard Goodman and Essie Lillian Davenport Goodman.

Erma spent every moment she could, right up to the very last, doing what she loved most, attending her grandchildren's activities no matter how small, reading her Bible, and she loved her family and loved spending time with them. She always had kind words and a smile for everyone she came in contact with.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson: Dante Issom Hembree; brothers: Ronald, Donald, Stanley and Eddie Goodman; father and mother-in-law: Sherman and Anna Mae Day; brothers-in-law: Delbert, Robert, Wilbert and Everett Day.

Survivors include her husband, Dewayne Day; sons: Dewayne Day, Jr. and Henry Day; daughter: Amelia Hembree and husband Egbert; 10 grandchildren, Emily Byrge and fiancé Kyler Pennington, Rebecca, Lily, Katie, Olivia and Korbin Day, Daniel, Andrew, Eli and Rachel Hembree; great-grandson: Bentley Jansen Pennington; sisters: Vella Strunk and husband Bill, Brenda Smith; brothers: Venice, Lonnie, Donnie Goodman; step-brother: Ray Marlow; brothers and sisters-in-law: Cassie Hatfield, Jemima Brown, Chub Day and wife Tina, Lois Day and Mary Day; many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 26 at 7 P.M. in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville with bro. Ashley Ellis and bro. Jim West officiating.

Graveside services were held Sunday, November 27 at 10:30 A.M. at the Smokey Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Daniel Hembree, Eli Hembree, Andrew Hembree, Egbert Hembree, Kyler Pennington, Dwight Jeffers.

REV. HOWARD H. JEFFERS

Rev. Howard H. Jeffers, 84, of Helenwood passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 after an extended illness.

Rev. Jeffers was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Meeks Jeffers; parents, Emerson and Elizabeth Jeffers; brothers, James and Arlie; sisters, Ethel, Lethie, and Delphie; and granddaughter, Whitney Ennist.

Survivors include two sisters, Lori and Shirley; three children, Ehud Jeffers, Sheila Bursk and husband, Rob, and Phyllis Ennist and husband, Daniel; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service were conducted Saturday, November 26 at 10 A.M. at the Little Charity Ministries Church with bro. Jeff Stanfill officiating. Music was provided by the Neal Family.

Interment followed in the Daniel Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Todd Buttram, 33, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at his home.

He was of the Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Karry Buttram and Lawton Keith Buttram; grandfather: Ernest Buttram; great-grandparents: Andrew and Laura Lackey, Oscar and Pearl Buttram.

Survivors include his special mother and grandmother of whom she raised as her own, Wilma Buttram; mother, Sherry Buttram and Junior Davis; brothers: Jonah Buttram and wife Loretta, Mark Buttram and wife Debbie, Jeff Buttram and wife Regina, Mike Buttram and wife Angie; special sister: Felicia Buttram; special nephew: Bentyn Buttram; special aunt: Linda Buttram and husband Donald West; special cousins: Jessica Buttram, Tabitha Buttram; special friend: Brandon Terry; several special cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

EDNA TERRY WEST

Edna Terry West, 97, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Si Terry and Rose Moore Terry.

She was a member of the Helenwood Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clell West; children: Sue Goss and Chuck West; brothers: Dewey, Henry, Carly and Jake Terry; sisters: Ellen West, Bertha Williams, Vickie Reed, Juanita Claxton, Verna Mae Phillips; five grandchildren: Lisa and Scott Martin, Troy West, Misty West Strunk and Keisha West; one great-great-grandson: Kaceton Layne Stephens; daughter-in-law: Genevieve West.

Survivors include her children: Clell West, Jr., Betty Sexton and husband Rick, Terry West and wife Beth, David West and wife Brenda Gail, Timothy West and wife Bonnie, Michael West and wife Teresa, Mark West and wife Tena, Robin Krahn and husband Lyle; daughter-in-law: Brenda Grace West; 32 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sister: Ruby Keeton; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 29 at 8 P.M. at the Helenwood Baptist Church with bro. Roger Cecil and bro. Jim West officiating. Music was provided by Brenda West, Arnold and Loyd Stephens.

Graveside services were Wednesday, November 30 at 11 A.M. at the Daniel Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were the grandsons.

Jean A. Griffith Dickey, 86, of Oneida passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at Tennova North Medical Center in Knoxville. She was the daughter of the late Mitchell and Carrie (Hamby) Griffith.

Jean retired from Rockford Products in Rockford, Illinois. She was a member of Lone Mountain Baptist Church since 1945, and attended Smithwood Baptist Church while she resided in Knoxville. Recently, she was a resident of Oneida Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oneida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Dickey; brother: Lonzie Griffith; two nephews: Harold Wayne Terrell and James Edwin Ellis; three brothers-in-law: Arvil Overton, James Edd Ellis and Norton Tate.

Survivors include seven sisters: Maxie Overton of Robbins, Maudia Ellis of Florence, KY, Claudia Gore and husband M. C. of Oneida, Zelma Tate of Huntsville, Lola Terrell and husband Wayne of Dry Ridge, KY, Margie Williams and husband Phillip of Dayton, Ohio, and Bonnie Lawson and husband Jimmy of Robbins; one brother: Donald and wife Connie of Florence, KY; a special friend, Barbara Robbins of Helenwood; two-step children: Susan Rogers of Madison, Wisconsin and William Rogers of Rockford, Illinois; one sister-in-law: Helen Schultz of Rockford, Illinois; nine nieces, six nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 29 at 1 P.M. at the Lone Mountain Baptist Church in Robbins with bro. John Vernon Thompson and bro. Roger Cecil officiating.

Burial followed in the Lone Mountain Church Cemetery.

ROTHEL (TUB) CROSS

Rothel (Tub) Cross, 80, of Oneida passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016. He was the son of the late Rev. Dewitt and Amanda Whalen Cross.

He retired from the Oneida School system after driving a school bus and serving as transportation supervisor for both Oneida and Scott County schools as well as a Scott County deputy for many years. He served as a County Commissioner for 19 years elected in the 4th and 5th districts. He often commented the things he was most proud of during his tenure as a commissioner was helping people get water in their homes, and the building of the Winfield school. He was a United States Veteran having served during the Korean War. In addition to being with family and friends Tub enjoyed attending Sunday school at New Salem United Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Cosetta Sauls and Mary Lee Ellis; brothers, Elza, Ronald, Kyle and Estel Cross; great-grandson, Jesse Brewster.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Posey Cross; children, Kim King and husband Wayne, Derek Cross, and Greg Cross and wife Kathy; sister, Ella Wright; grandchildren, Tara Brewster, Corey and Alicia King, Caleb and Kaitlyn King, Colton, Jacob, Lucas, Kristin Cross; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Jase Brewster, Jasmine and Jaden King; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 28 at 7:30 P.M. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with bro. Keith Marcum and bro. Wayne King officiating.

Graveside service was conducted Tuesday, November 29 at 1 P.M. in the Troxel Cemetery with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Linda Hall passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the U.T. Medical Center.

DOUGLAS R. JEFFERS

Douglas R. Jeffers, 74, of Chatsworth, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016, at Hamilton Medical Center.

He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William "High" Jeffers and Rena Boshears Jeffers; brothers, Earl Koger, L.C. Koger, Bobby Koger; and sister, Phillis L. Jeffers.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Jeffers of Chatsworth; daughter, Cheryl Ann Morgan of Chatsworth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Ray and Pat Jeffers of Knoxville, Roger and Millie Jeffers of Knoxville, Paul Jeffers of Huntsville, Mark Jeffers of Huntsville, and William Jeffers of Huntsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte Jeffers of Huntsville, Jenny Jeffers of Knoxville, JoAnn Burchfield of Oneida, Carolyn Smith of Chatsworth, GA, and Bonnie Kay Jeffers; grandchildren, Erica Marie Duckett and Chad Ryan Duckett; great-grandchild Logan Charleston Williams; special nephew Earl Wayne Lloyd; Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Graveside services to celebrate the life of Mr. Jeffers were held Sunday, November 27, at 2 P.M. at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Norma, with Rev. Kenny Cox, Rev. Gene Thomason, and Rev. Randy McClure officiating.

MARIE BYRD

Marie Byrd 92, formerly of Scott County, passed peacefully Friday, November 25, 2016 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Hobert L. and Rosia Jane (Branim) Wright.

On December 15, 1945, she married Hubert Byrd in Huntsville and he preceded her in death May 2, 2012. Marie was a charter member (1939) of Mt. View Baptist Church in Robbins, a member of Kings Baptist Church in Vero Beach, FL and attended Graceway Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She was always active in church and taught Sunday school and Bible Study. Marie worked at the University of Michigan Hospital in the clerical department for ten years. She was a real estate salesperson and also received her real estate and brokerage license, where she then was a realtor/real estate broker in Vero Beach, FL. Marie loved reading, crocheting, sewing, fishing, gardening and canning her produce.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; two daughters, Suzette Byrd and Patricia Eastman; two brothers, Kenneth and Casto; and six sisters, Aree Blevins, Flora Terry, Flonnie Branim, Lois "Tootsie" Smith, Wanda Compton and one sister in infancy.

Survivors include her three sons, Frazier L. (Betty) Byrd of Belleville, Donald R. (Theresa) Byrd of Stockbridge and Michael K. (Sandra) Byrd of AZ; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel (Bob) DeBord, Onlee (Clifford) Garrett and Ruth (Guy) Ainsworth, all of TN; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation Thursday, December 1 from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville. Funeral services will be Friday, December 2 at 11 A.M. at Mountain View Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in Black Creek Cross Road Cemetery in Robbins.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
